Troup County plans replacement of 80 computers as Windows 10 support ends

Troup County officials were told at a Sept. 16 work session that roughly 80 county computers identified earlier this year cannot be upgraded to Windows 11 and will need replacement before Microsoft ends support for Windows 10 in October. A county IT staff member said the replacement quotes run about $58,000 and that vendor quotes do not remain valid long.
"Windows 10 is coming to an end in October…we identified 80 computers back in February…it's approximately what it'll be to replace those 80," the IT staff member said, urging commissioners to approve the purchase so staff has time to deploy and migrate files. Commissioners asked about funds; a staff representative said the replacements were included in this year’s budget. The board was told procurement should begin quickly because the vendor quotes expire and rolling out 80 configured machines will take time.
