Jury schedules multiple condemnation hearings after property standards review

Property Standards Officer David Ghormley presented photographs and recommended condemnation hearings for several properties the board found to pose health and safety hazards. The jury scheduled hearings on July 1, 2026 for: 209 Sweetgum Drive (Tax Assessment No. 120157), 272 & 278 Pease Road (Tax Assessment No. 149481), 1154 Adner Lane (Tax Assessment No. 120473) and 2125 Twin Lake Drive (Tax Assessment No. 101596).
Ghormley told jurors he had received little or no contact from owners and that multiple extensions had not produced compliance. Parish Attorney Patrick Jackson advised the jury that if the parish condemns and clears properties, the total invoices for work become liens on the properties and potential foreclosure is the other available recourse. Motions to schedule each condemnation hearing were approved unanimously.
