County approves SPLOST and budget transfers for EMS, SCBA replacements and E911 upgrades

Zach Buck told commissioners the county seeks budget line transfers and SPLOST funding to boost local emergency-response capability. "We're requesting that $25,000 be amended and added to the marshal's office, other equipment to purchase 10 chainsaws and 10 AEDs," Buck said, and asked for an additional $25,000 to be moved into medical fire rescue supplies.
Buck also described a multi-year plan to replace SCBA cylinders as they reach a 15-year service life. "These are $1,427.68 for a total of $28,553.60," he said, noting the department holds 146 cylinders, six of which are currently out of service and an additional 122 will reach the 15-year mark by 2031. The board approved the budget amendment and the SPLOST request for the fire department equipment.
On 911 upgrades, Buck described items including monitor upgrades, flooring replacement and docking stations. "E911 is asking for permission to spend up to $35,000 out of their SPLOST 5 funding," he said. After questions and clarification about procurement and timing the board voted to approve the E911 and fire department equipment requests.
