Plan Commission approves conversion of three commercial lots to residential in Chalmers subdivision

The Plan Commission approved a zoning amendment allowing Leeway IN Properties LLC to change three undeveloped commercial lots in the Chalmers Pres de Lac subdivision from B3 commercial to R1B residential. Attorney David Ambers argued the reclassification brings the parcels into alignment with the rest of the subdivision and addresses a local need for housing rather than commercial development.
Owner Richard Lee was present and Ambers told the commission the owner intends to seek plat approval next month to subdivide the lots for residential development. The motion to approve the rezoning was made by Eric Pointon, seconded by John Carr, and carried unanimously (9–0). Any future development will require standard permitting, health department review for septic and other utilities, and compliance with platting requirements.
