Wise County honors student winners of America 250 essay contest

Wise County Judge J.D. Clark and representatives from the Wise County Historical Commission recognized winners of a county-wide America 250 essay contest during the May 26 Commissioners' Court meeting. Organizers included Mickey Tanner of TPUSA Faith Hub and commission representatives Donna Weeden and Beverly Lindsey. Winners and essays announced were: "Why I Love America" by Turner Bayless (4th grade, Decatur), "Why I Love America" by Brayden Skates (4th grade, Paradise), "Why Communities Matter" by Angel Banuelos (7th grade, Bridgeport), and "The Price of Freedom is Character" by Emma Louks (9th grade, countywide).
Officials said the contest was run in three grade bands (grades 3–5, 6–8 and 9–12) with separate prompts for each band and was intended to encourage student civic research and patriotism. Judge Clark and Commissioner Colby Shawn appeared at recognition; the court publicly thanked participating students, teachers and school districts.
