Dufresne also said crews are excavating a new drainage ditch on the west side of Magnolia Heights, tied to a recent jack-and-bore installation of two 30‑inch railroad pipes beneath Union Pacific tracks.
Dufresne listed several community dates and services: Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) through April 16 (walk-ins Tuesdays and Thursdays or by appointment at 225-562-2432), a health fair on April 2 in partnership with St. James Parish Hospital, a blood drive April 2 at the Convent Community Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Market Day at Lutcher Park on April 11, and Shop Small St. James on April 18. He also congratulated the new restaurant Yummy Tokyo and recognized Yvonne's Directions in Dance as the March business of the month. "We encourage all of you to help us 'paint the parish blue' by wearing blue tomorrow in support of Autism Awareness Day," Dufresne told the council.
The President's office said quotes are due April 3 for a 7th District Park press-box and bleacher project and that a preconstruction conference with PinTail Contracting took place for a new library driveway project expected to be completed within about three weeks. These items were presented for information; no formal votes on the events or projects were taken at the meeting.
