Chief James Canon told the Suffield Police Commission on July 22 that, overall, the FY2026 police budget was within expense and benefits lines but that the salary line showed an overage of approximately $128,000, which the minutes say is largely due to maintaining shift staffing for personnel concerns.
Chief Canon also reported the department had one patrol vacancy. The minutes record that the department hired a lateral transfer, Niko Krzynowek, who began in the first week of July; another most-recently approved candidate remains in background checks. The commission approved submitted reports by unanimous voice vote.
