Selectmen ask Board of Finance for $28,100 to cover permanent assessor hire

The Bozrah Board of Selectmen voted July 21 to request $28,100 from the Board of Finance to cover additional costs related to a permanent tax assessor hire.
First Selectman Glenn Pianka broke the request into three line-item increases: $7,500 for pension (102/52060), $2,600 for Social Security (102/53060) and $18,000 to Assessor salary (106/51003). Selectman Jeremy Tarasevich moved the request and the motion carried unanimously.
The meeting packet also included an email from Pianka proposing a draft assessor job description and a compensation package that would raise the assessor salary to $53,664 (from the FY26/27 budgeted $35,664). In that email Pianka summarized total personnel cost as $80,043 when factoring salary, insurance and MERS contributions.
The board asked the Assessor to review the impact of PA-490 parcels on the town's valuation data; Pianka noted the town’s CAMA system currently shows roughly 40% open space.
