W Road project over budget; Public Works estimates $30,000–$40,000 shortfall
Summary
Public Works reported the W Road project exceeded its $38,000 budget after restarting work and estimated the county will need an additional $30,000–$40,000 to finish the job; staffing shortages and sequencing near a grain bin also delayed completion.

Public Works Director Scott Kieffaber told commissioners the W Road project had gone over its original $38,000 budget after crews resumed work following a pause. Kieffaber estimated the county would need 'another $30-40,000.00 to complete the project' and said most of the rock needed for the project was already on-site in piles.
Kieffaber described operational constraints: crews paused to allow a farmer to finish hauling near a grain bin, employees have been ill and the department has been short-staffed. He said he had scheduled a 1 p.m. meeting with 'Matt' to discuss adding Matt’s crew and a second water truck to the work. Commissioners discussed shifting crews and directed staff to pursue options to complete the project, including reassessing vendor choices for equipment repairs and fuel availability.
