Conservation district asks Jackson County to hold 2027 appropriation at $68,000

Jackson County Conservation District board members asked the county commission to maintain the district’s 2027 county appropriation at $68,000. District Manager Brian Boeckman and board chairman Jarrod Bowser told the board the appropriation supports staff salaries, supplies and education programs.
Boekman said the district brought $656,000 into Jackson County through its programs, partnerships with agricultural retailers and contractor work. He singled out the Kansas Reservoir Protection Initiative, saying it produced 77 contracts and $535,470.25 in local payments. Bowser said, 'we are requesting to keep our appropriation the same at $68,000.00.' Commissioners asked for a breakdown of how the county funds are used; Boeckman said the county dollars primarily support salaries, supplies and education outreach including the youth Envirothon, school contests and third grade ag festivals.
The board did not take an immediate vote on the request during the March 30 meeting; commissioners expressed appreciation for the district’s work and noted the district’s equipment rental program as a local resource. The conservation district’s presentation began at the time the commissioners received the request and included multiple board members answering commissioner questions about the program budget and local economic benefit.
