Sheriff’s office staff requested permission to apply for the 2025 GEMA Homeland Security EOD K9 grant and described the intended uses for the award.
"The total is $14,278 and that is for the canine, the kennel, and some, just some miscellaneous equipment," staff said, noting the grant is a reimbursable award with no matching funds required. Commissioners asked about the current number of K‑9 units; staff said they believe there are two K‑9 units and that the request is to replace one previously lost canine and associated equipment.
The board authorized the request to apply for the grant. Staff will complete application paperwork and follow grant reimbursement procedures if the award is made.
