Commissioners approve purchase of old Tatum School parcel for new Station 14

County staff presented a property agreement with the Troup County School System to acquire roughly 5 acres encompassing the old Tatum School site to relocate Fire Station 14.
Staff said the property is adjacent to the airport and that relocating Station 14 will expand coverage in western parts of the county that had a coverage gap after the city relinquished a prior station. "The property which is approximately 5 acres, the old Tatum school is really no longer in use other than for parking the buses," staff said, noting the school system will keep the back portion for bus parking by easement as part of the agreement.
Commissioners discussed insurance rating considerations tied to a five‑mile proximity rule and the practical coverage improvements anticipated. The board approved the agreement and staff said additional deed work and an easement reservation for school bus parking will follow before closing.
