Commissioners asked to reallocate $350,000 set aside for AMR subsidy toward equipment, supplies and training

County staff told the board that negotiations with AMR over a transport subsidy remain unresolved and asked permission to reallocate parts of the $350,000 the board previously set aside for that subsidy.
"We're asking for a budget amendment, for that to go to the Marshal's Office for $25,000 that'll cover AEDs and chainsaws for all the marshal's vehicles," the fire-department representative said, describing training plans and coordination with fire department trainers and an outside vendor for chainsaw safety. Staff also asked for roughly $25,000 to buy medical rescue supplies so every fire truck can be outfitted with ALS drug kits.
Officials said the reallocation would keep funds within emergency-medical services accounts rather than spending them on a transport contract the county has not yet finalized. Staff noted they plan to begin a new hiring standard on Jan. 1, 2026, requiring newly hired personnel to obtain Advanced Emergency Medical Technician certification.
Commissioners asked questions about how the funds would be used and were told the allocations are shifts between existing accounts rather than new spending beyond the $350,000 annual set‑aside. The request will be taken up at the regular meeting tonight for formal action.
