The Ward County Commissioners' Court voted unanimously Aug. 25 to adopt the county's 2026 budget with the changes presented at the meeting and to set the tax rate at the same level as the previous year, $0.09 per $100 valuation.
"Motion made by Judge Hotty to adopt the 2026 budget with changes that were presented, Commissioner Netms seconded and unanimously adopted by the Court," the minutes state. The court opened a public hearing on the budget at 9:55 a.m.; no members of the public responded and the hearing was closed before the vote.
The meeting packet included proposed and adjusted budget totals and revenue-line changes such as Ad Valorem tax lines and state supplement figures. The minutes record proposed budget figures and line-item entries used during consideration; several small decreases and increases to specific accounts (for parks, pools and other departments) were reflected in the adjusted totals presented to the Court.
The adoption followed a series of budget amendments and line-item adjustments that the Court considered earlier in the meeting. The Court adopted the budget by unanimous vote and adjourned at 10:00 a.m.
