Elementary summer program reports steady enrollment and intervention use

Bethany Elementary hosted the district's elementary summer program. Staff reported 643 invitations were sent, about 303 enrolled and final-day attendance near 206; ESY special-education enrollment was 35 with 64% attendance and staff used targeted interventions and attendance incentives.
District staff reported on the elementary summer school program held at Bethany Elementary during the Sept. 18 board meeting.
Officials said 643 invitations were sent to students identified as one or more years below grade level; 303 enrolled and daily attendance varied, with 206 present on the final day reported in staff slides. The ESY (extended school year) special-education program enrolled 35 students and achieved a 64% attendance rate. Staff described use of multiple English and math intervention programs, weekly attendance incentives and an attendance-store raffle to sustain participation.
A presenter noted the program measured student growth by comparing spring MAP scores to fall MAP scores and reported “significant growth” across grades K–7 in reading and math during the equivalent of nine regular school days. Trustees asked about ESY data reporting and were told ESY outcomes are individualized to students’ IEP goals and do not fit the same aggregate table used for general summer-school metrics.
