Lemon Crest spotlight; district reports hiring, literacy training and facilities updates

Principal Jennifer Price led the Lemon Crest spotlight, listing the schools "three main goals for the year: academic achievement, social-emotional well-being and safety, and attendance." She described plans for restorative practices, fall bingo, monthly coffees with the principal and trophies for best attendance as site strategies to meet those goals.
Assistant Superintendent Robin Ballarin told trustees Human Resources has hired 37 classified staff members and 31 certificated staff members since July 1. Assistant Superintendent Lisa Davis said the district kitchen will host a field trip on Nov. 7 at the District Office, which will include a tour of a new composter machine, and that the new Extended Student Services buildings are nearly complete. Dr. Natalie Winspear described the districts Strong Workforce Grant application and said LETRS training has begun with 64 teachers participating in professional development on the science of reading. Superintendent Rhonda Taylor noted she participated in a "Classrooms of the Future" podcast and that every principal prepared an attendance-improvement plan this year.
