Cayuga County solicits projects for state county infrastructure grant to support housing

Cayuga County Planning Director Kari Terwilliger told the Planning Committee the county is preparing to submit applications for the New York State County Infrastructure Grant Program, a state-funded program limited to counties for smaller-scale infrastructure projects that directly support new housing. Planning staff sent a "call for projects" on July 17 to municipalities, developers and economic partners and set a proposals deadline of August 15. Terwilliger said staff will bring eligible project lists to the County Legislature for a decision on which projects the county will support and include in grant applications.
The program is intended to accelerate infrastructure investments tied to housing creation; Terwilliger emphasized the county's goal is to support housing in one or more towns or villages where feasible. The report to the committee did not name specific candidate projects at the meeting and said final project selections will be presented to the Legislature for approval prior to grant submission.
