Cayuga County wins $103,500 for first countywide strategic plan since 1969

Director Kari Terwilliger reported Cayuga County was awarded $103,500 to prepare a countywide strategic plan, the first comprehensive county plan adopted in 1969. The 36‑month project formally began April 1, includes a 16‑member steering committee, and will involve broad public outreach including four planned short surveys and three public kick‑off meetings held across the county in early July.
Terwilliger said the grant is a 90/10 award that will reimburse most staff expenses, with the remaining 10% of staff time and project costs planned from the Planning Department's 2025–2027 budgets. The effort aims to provide guidance on housing, economic development, tourism, sustainable public services and natural resources.
