Patrick County begins VA250 planning for weeklong June 29–July 4 celebration

Patrick County tourism staff and local volunteers began coordinated planning on Feb. 19 for VA250 activities that would run June 29 through July 4 across the county.
James Houchins, director of Economic Development and Tourism, told the council he "would like for the VA250 Committee and TAC to work together in planning the week-long celebration beginning June 29th," and said events are tentatively planned at Laurel Hill, Meadows of Dan, and Fairystone Park. He asked council members to help recruit volunteers, contact Ruritan clubs, and identify additional sites where community events could be held. The Reynolds Homestead is expected to be involved, and staff hope to include the VA250 Mobile Museum in Fairystone Park or nearby.
Ann McConnell and Barbara Jo Newton were asked to provide county historical material and a written description for the tourism office; James asked that such information be submitted by March 13 to allow inclusion in the spring magazine and timeline. Council members discussed using some tourism funds to support events and agreed staff would circulate follow-up emails with volunteer and planning details.
