Rush Valley approves modest pay increases for mayor, council and town staff

Rush Valley’s Town Council adopted an ordinance on June 17 that adjusts compensation for elective, statutory and appointed officers for the 2026–2027 fiscal year.
After discussion about growing workloads — notably extra Fire Department responsibilities under House Bill 48 and expanded administrative duties for the Clerk/Recorder tied to grants and reporting — the council approved Ordinance No. 2026-01. The ordinance increases Mayor and councilmember pay by $50 per month, increases the Clerk/Recorder's pay by $200 per month, raises the Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chief pay by $100 per month each, and establishes a separate $50-per-month stipend for Emergency Management duties. Councilmembers voted unanimously to adopt the ordinance.
Council discussion noted the changes were intended to reflect additional responsibilities and administrative time. The council specified that the additional Emergency Management stipend and other amounts would be funded from the Fire Department budget as described during the meeting.
