The Rush Valley Town Council approved Ordinance No. 2026-01 on June 17 to raise compensation for elective, statutory, and appointed officers for the 2026–2027 fiscal year. The ordinance increases Mayor pay by $50 per month and councilmember pay by $50 per month; it raises the Clerk/Recorder's pay by $200 per month and increases Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chief pay by $100 per month each. The council also established a separate $50-per-month compensation for Emergency Management duties.
Discussion focused on expanded responsibilities, including additional Fire Department duties under House Bill 48 (wildfire interface inspections, public education, Planning & Zoning participation, and emergency management responsibilities) and the growing administrative workload for the Clerk/Recorder driven by increased budget size, grants, and reporting. Councilmember Dana Gardner moved to adopt the ordinance; Councilmember Jeremiah Harding seconded and the ordinance was approved with all present voting in favor.
