Commissioners take gravel bids under advisement after opening two proposals for stockpiles north of Poplar

At a July 22 bid opening the Roosevelt County commissioners reviewed competing bids for gravel stockpiles north of Poplar and for the Picard Pit. Gratech Company LLC offered $3.25 per ton plus a $1.15-per-ton landowner royalty (total recorded as $96,800 for one lot). Bishop Inc. submitted higher bids of $5.50 per ton for certain lots with a $15,000 mobilization fee (total figures recorded in the minutes as $235,000 and $125,000 for the different lots).
Following the presentations Commissioner Robert Toavs moved to take the bids under advisement for one week to allow further internal review; Commissioner Marottek seconded the motion and it passed. The minutes record no immediate award and the board adjourned the short bid-opening session.
The board’s decision to take bids under advisement is consistent with standard procurement practice when the board seeks additional time to verify specifications, mobilization costs and estimated quantities before awarding a contract.
