Jefferson County commissioners voted to authorize work at Jefferson County Lake to widen the entrance to two inbound lanes and an express lane for season passes and cash, move the payment booth north and add electrical conduit and pull boxes. Planning and lake staff estimated the work would cost between $25,000 and $30,000 and moved the board to set a project cap not to exceed $50,000 using lake impact fees.
"We're looking to really help break that down," Martin, the lake manager, said of the lane additions, adding the change should reduce summertime backups. Commissioners seconded and approved the motion by roll call. They also approved a series of seasonal vendor applications (Taqueria El Pollo, Tres Hermanas, Taylor Snowcone, Tropical Snow and others) and moved to purchase a log splitter for the lake for $1,399, with funding coming from the lake’s budget.
Martin outlined additional operational items — a small general store, firewood sales and a planned cardboard regatta and paddleboard races — saying many of the items can be handled in-house and funded through impact fees. The board directed staff to coordinate timing so construction, traffic control and vendor readiness align with the busy season and upcoming events.
