County agrees to explore MOU to extend Lewisville’s $100,000 road grant

Jefferson County commissioners on Feb. 6 agreed to explore a memorandum of understanding after Lewisville’s mayor said the town had won a $100,000 impact grant to repair a half-mile stretch of its north–south road.
“It's a $100,000 which isn't gonna fix our North South Roads,” the mayor said, noting the city lacks equipment and manpower and asked the county to help with machine work, gravel and traffic control. County Road & Bridge staff estimated asphalt costs for the half-mile at roughly $50,000 and said the county could provide machine labor if the city covers materials and oil. Staff recommended drafting an MOU to document responsibilities and timing before work begins.
Commissioners asked staff to inspect the site and prepare the MOU. County staff said the project is weather-dependent and could be scheduled when hot-mix plants are operating. The board did not take a final funding vote at the meeting; commissioners said they would return with cost estimates and a proposed schedule for construction and the MOU.
