County staff told commissioners they could support an amendment to the county's annual water demand projection to place 0.25 MGD into the regional distribution pool to aid the City of Punta Gorda if the Water Authority approves the city's request April 1.
Assistant County Administrator Claire Jubb said the county would be the only Water Authority member initially contributing to the pool and that payment adjustments for sold water are prorated by percentage of contribution. "We could actually add 0.25 MGD to the distribution pool," she told the board, adding staff would bring an amended demand projection back to the board after the Water Authority votes.
Commissioners asked whether the contribution would lower retail rates and whether it would be possible to earmark the pool allocation specifically for Punta Gorda. Staff said the county would work with the Water Authority and the City's request and return with recommendations and any necessary agreement language.
