Commissioners approve $592,000 project to parallel aging potable water main

Claire Jubb, interim utilities director, said the existing pipe (installed in the 1970s) is asbestos cement and near end of life; Operations Manager Ken Stecker explained the new line will ensure system pressure and allow for future capacity increases. "If we don't do this now... we'll be out there fixing it again later," Stecker said. Commissioners pressed staff to consider upsizing in parts of the run for future growth; staff confirmed the design can be revised to 16 inches in planned segments and that the booster station and taps would be coordinated with the Water Authority project.
The board approved the design and directed staff to return with any final details and funding plan as work moves into the CIP and permitting phases.
