CCMC seeks $12.5M in grants for robotic surgery, nursing‑home renovation; board appoints trustee

Austin Gillard, CEO of Clay County Medical Center, updated the Clay County Board of Commissioners on March 23, saying the hospital has submitted the first State of Kansas grant application for a Da Vinci robotic surgical system worth $2.5 million and will next seek a $10 million grant to renovate the former Advena Nursing Home and explore converting assisted‑living space into a memory‑care unit.
Gillard also said CCMC will receive a facility dog from KSDS Assistance Dogs, Inc., to assist patients; the dog will live with an employee and be on site daily. He reported that Pain Management services have grown and the hospital plans to add one additional clinic day per month in Clay Center.
The hospital notified the Board that trustee Sandy Fox resigned after 25 years of service; Commissioner Mayo moved to appoint Carrie Lane to serve the remainder of Fox’s term on the hospital board, Commissioner Carlson seconded, and the motion passed unanimously. The minutes record the Board’s approval of the appointment.
