County recognizes long-serving employees; departments report spring preparations

The Jefferson County Board of Commissioners recognized staff members who reached 10- and 30-year employment milestones and heard a series of departmental updates at its Feb. 23 meeting.
IT Director Garn Herrick said the department’s priority is preparing VBN laptops for Sheriff's vehicles to ensure secure in-vehicle connections. Public Works reported recent snow plowing and is reviewing the potential impact of state funding cuts. Probation Director Tammy Adkins said juvenile-detention arrangements are changing: 5C will close on March 1 and the county will utilize 3B in Bonneville County. HR/Emergency Management Rebecca Squires said it is grant season, policy drafts will be circulated for feedback and furniture has been ordered for a federally required lactation room in the annex breakroom. Sheriff Steve Anderson said his office is preparing for spring events including the annual Easter Egg Hunt which will be coordinated with Parks & Recreation.
The board received routine updates on assessor, treasurer, building and landfill projects. Prosecutor Paul Butikofer raised concerns about security in the annex building and asked for the item to be placed on a future agenda for further discussion.
