Patrick County's Board of Supervisors voted Feb. 9 to authorize development of a Flood Preparedness Plan to meet Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) and Virginia Resources Authority requirements.
Paul Jadrnicek of the West Piedmont Planning District Commission told the board the plan will provide a local framework to "anticipate, prepare, respond to, and recover from flood hazards, helping to minimize damage to social well-being, health, the economy, and the environment." The Patrick County Soil and Water Conservation Board will act on the county's behalf and contract the West Piedmont Planning District Commission as the primary plan developer. The board approved the resolution on a motion by Steve Marshall; the vote carried unanimously.
