Marshall County jailer: partial contract received; county preparing to receive inmates from Christian County

Jailer Roger Ford updated the Marshall County fiscal court that the county had "received a call just a few minutes ago that we did get the contract. Part of the contract," and that transports of inmates from Christian County are expected soon. Ford said he believed the sending county would have roughly 30 days to move inmates and estimated the receiving partner currently holds about "80 or 85 inmates."
Ford told commissioners the per diem was increased to $34.50 to align with neighboring counties and discussed program continuity: inmates currently in programs would remain in those programs while housed here. He also said opioid-settlement money could cover an MRT instructor, related books and some medical and dental costs, which he estimated could "save us probably $20,000 or better." Commissioners discussed consulting the attorney general's office and county counsel on allowable uses of settlement funds before authorizing expenditures.
