County Counselor Todd Luckman reported meeting last Friday with Prairie Band Tribal Council attorneys to discuss road and bridge maintenance. According to the minutes, the tribal attorneys suggested the two departments draft an agreement and then submit it to the Bureau of Indian Affairs for review; county staff said that waiting for BIA input could be lengthy and noted long-standing difficulty getting tribal and county staff to meet and finalize an MOU.
Commissioner Kelly directed Road and Bridge Director Scott Kieffaber to reach out to Lisa Wamego to schedule a meeting to move the discussion forward. The board recorded interest in clarifying whether federal dollars are being used for maintenance on reservation roads the county has been maintaining.
