John Hansen of Midwest Construction Consultants updated the board on the county jail remodel and presented a contractor quote of $21,265 for HVAC work on the existing building. The board approved the HVAC quote; supervisors Mike Schulte, Jeff Loring and LeRoy DeBoer voted in favor, and Jerry Helmers voted against the HVAC approval.
The board also approved the May pay application for the remodel totaling $291,690.60. The application itemized payments to multiple firms: Midwest Construction Consultants ($15,398.84), Steffes Companies ($126,417.54), Redlinger Brothers ($21,698.00), C.W. Suter ($29,645.22), Winger ($96,163.75), Boji Portable Toilets ($560.00) and the City of Sibley ($1,807.25). The pay application motion was approved by the board.
Why it matters: the expenditures move the jail remodel project through construction and equipment procurement phases. The board recorded a split vote on the HVAC quote, signaling at least one member's reservation about that purchase. The county will continue to process contractor invoices as the project proceeds.
