Landfill cleanup updates, equipment requests and five-year planning discussed

Solid Waste Department Head Corey Meitl briefed commissioners at 11:00 a.m. on March 30 that the landfill scrap metal pile has been removed, pallets have been relocated to the demolition pile and the concrete pile has been cleaned up. Meitl asked whether the board would approve disposing of one of the trailers in landfill inventory and raised the possibility that Camp Pawnee Maintenance might reuse the trailer.
Meitl also presented information about a shredder and requested direction on equipment purchases. Commissioner Rein requested a five-year plan from Solid Waste showing anticipated equipment purchases and maintenance costs so the board can plan budgets accordingly. The board discussed broader grant and budget issues, including Hometown Grants and Pawnee Valley Community Hospital repayment of funds, but no formal vote on landfill equipment purchases was recorded at the March 30 meeting.
