Public Works asks to use contracted fuel as weed-chemical request is tabled

Morton County Public Works said fuel prices have risen and requested use of fuel contracted from Texhoma Wheat Growers; compactor repairs are underway. A resident request to order bulk herbicide was tabled pending legal review of noxious weed law by the County Attorney.
Sheldon, Public Works, told the commission that because fuel prices have risen he wants to use fuel already contracted and stored in county tanks from Texhoma Wheat Growers.
"Since the fuel prices have went up, he wants to use what is stored in tanks that was contracted from Texhoma Wheat Growers," Sheldon reported. He also said compactor parts are in and mechanics will ensure proper installation, and that the weed department has begun spraying.
Commissioners discussed a county resident’s request to order bulk herbicide but agreed there were too many questions about budget and state procedures; the request was tabled and County Attorney David Thompson was assigned to look into noxious weed laws and report back.
