Nye County commission votes to keep ad valorem levy limit at 98% and prioritize public safety, education, health

The Nye County Debt Management Commission on Aug. 28 voted to maintain its past practice on setting a percentage limitation on the total ad valorem tax levy, specifying a 98% limit and identifying public safety, education and health as essential services to be prioritized.
"I make a motion to stay with past practice, which was to specify the limit at 98% and not less than 75% and to go with standard procedures on past priorities for essential facilities such as public safety, education, and health," Robin Rivero said when moving the measure under NRS 350.0155. The motion was seconded by Terry Bodine and the commission approved the action 4-0.
The vote was recorded as "passed four-zero" in the meeting minutes. Commissioners did not amend the priorities list during the discussion.
