Houston County approves $78,050 opioid-education agreement funded by settlement money

The Houston County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a Memorandum of Understanding on Feb. 4 with Reclaiming Ground Inc., of Warner Robins to provide opioid-awareness education in county schools at a cost of $78,050, to be paid from the Opioid Settlement Fund.
Presenter Mr. Byrd moved the request and Mr. Talton seconded; the board carried the measure unanimously. Coroner James Williams spoke in full support of the agreement and Willie Raines, the presenter who will lead assemblies, described recent work at Westfield and upcoming events. Sheriff Moulton, speaking from his experience as a narcotics investigator, said he responded to numerous overdose calls and supported bringing assemblies and Narcan training to schools and county staff.
Chairman Perdue noted efforts by Chief Chris Stoner and the district attorney to introduce Narcan to public-safety employees and county buildings to help reverse overdoses. The MOU funds will cover presentations and school assemblies aimed at raising student and community awareness about opioid dangers.
