Emergency management reports grants progress, siren upgrades and drought conditions

Thom Bozeman, the county’s Emergency Management Coordinator and Fire Warden, presented an activity report detailing grant activity, equipment purchases and emergency-preparedness work. Bozeman said 2023 and 2024 SHSP grants are in progress, an MRG grant for an EM building was approved and work on siren upgrades is in final design with installation set for the end of July; one consolette has been installed and another delivered.
Bozeman’s report also noted that 2025 SHSP awards have been made but paperwork remains pending and that the county’s 2025 EMPG award was approved for $38,549. He highlighted a partially awarded upgrade for additional RIMS server capacity and noted one magnetometer award ($8,298) for courthouse screening under a short-term SHSP grant. In separate siren/drought notes submitted with his monthly activity report, the fire warden observed the county has received needed short-term moisture but remains in an extreme-drought designation for most of the county over a multi-decade timeframe.
