Commissioners approve budget amendments for Fair and large Weed & Pest sales

At the June 16 meeting the Board of County Commissioners approved budget amendments presented by County Clerk Mary Feagler to add unanticipated expense and matching revenue lines. The approved amendments were: Fair $15,000 (expense and income), Fairgrounds $10,000, and Weed & Pest $235,000. Commissioner Aaron Walsh moved to approve the amendments; motions were seconded and passed.
Weed & Pest Supervisor Bob Baumgartner submitted a written explanation asking for the additional funds because the program sold over 200 gallons of a product called Rejuvra at a unit cost of about $1,176 per gallon, creating roughly $220,000 of unplanned cost of goods sold. Baumgartner said the office expects the extra expense to be covered by additional sales revenue and cash carryover and requested the county increase the Cost of Goods Sold line from $375,000 to $610,000 for fiscal year 2025–26.
The Fair Association also submitted an amendment package that balanced increased facility revenue, transfers, payroll and expenses; Fairgrounds General Manager Stephanie Bumguardner presented the Fair report and the board accepted it. Commissioners noted the insurance renewal quoted by Burns Insurance must be decided before July 1 and said they would finalize insurance decisions during a final budget workshop next week.
