The Draper Special Events Arena board met in September to review recent events and plan for next year. Chair Doug Blodry opened the meeting and asked members to introduce themselves; he said the recent monster truck show “did a little bit better than last year” and that Wadsworth had regraded the arena to improve the surface.
Board members spent the bulk of the meeting brainstorming potential events for 2025 and discussing operational constraints. Several ideas came up, including movie nights, a demolition derby, obstacle-course races, drone races, a concert and remote-control car races. On the logistics side, members noted concerns about parking and crowd flow — one member recalled long walks from distant lots during the monster truck event — and the fire marshal’s estimate that a concert configuration could allow up to about 6,000 attendees versus the arena’s standard seating of roughly 1,400.
Members agreed to prepare three top event ideas apiece for the next meeting; the board scheduled its next session for Oct. 23 at 5:30 p.m. Before adjourning the group moved to approve the minutes from July 31, 2024 and closed the meeting.
