Jessie Hook, newly hired as the Destination Stewardship Network manager through Taos Main Street, told the joint Taos County–Town of Taos meeting she will focus the network’s first year on equitable distribution of tourism’s economic benefits and on establishing sustainable management.
"We have the Destination Stewardship Plan. It's 117 pages of ideas and information… We had over 3,300 people in our community take a survey," Hook said, noting turnout far above typical plan surveys. Hook said action teams established so far target cultural events funding, product development to resource businesses aligned with tourism, and long‑term network management.
Hook asked both bodies to consider FY26 budget support for first‑year work and to keep the network’s management in mind during upcoming budget cycles. Town and county leaders responded positively; county staff emphasized that a dedicated manager and initial funding will help move the plan from a document to action.
