Selectboard pauses decision on Center Hill street closure for festival pending business outreach

Walli Blumm, representing the event committee, asked the Town of Manchester Selectboard on June 9 to close Center Hill so food trucks could operate and pedestrians would be safer. "Closing the street accommodates food trucks and will be safer for guests," Blumm said. Chair Ivan Beattie said closing both Center Hill and Park Place would create a dead end and asked that the committee consult businesses and emergency services before the board takes action.
Board members discussed practical impacts on local businesses and emergency access. Jonathan West initially moved to authorize the closure of Center Hill, with Laurie Kunz seconding, but Kunz later withdrew her second and West withdrew the motion after the board asked organizers and town staff to consult affected businesses and Fire & Rescue and return with a revised request. Scott Murphy said the committee’s facility-use form for Adams Park is approved and that staff will follow up with the committee and with PJ Owens about traffic impacts. No street-closure authorization was adopted at the meeting.
