The Kane County Planning Commission on Jan. 14 recommended that a 4.37-acre parcel (3-5-31-21-4) be rezoned from agriculture to manufacturing to allow RV and storage units, sending Ordinance O-2026-01 to the County Commission for final action.
Applicant Nick Ramsey proposed the change, saying the site would be used primarily for RV and storage units. Land Use Administrator Shannon McBride told the commission that manufacturing zoning would be appropriate given the parcel's proximity to existing industrial sites and highlighted potential concerns about lighting that could require review and conditions. Commissioner Lara Clayson recused herself from discussion because she represents the seller of the property.
“Matt Cox moves to recommend approval of the zone change for parcel 3-5-31-21-4 from AG to Manufacturing & Ordinance O-2026-01 to the County Commission based on the facts and findings as documented in the staff report,” said Commissioner Matt Cox when making the motion; Larry Crutchfield seconded and the motion passed unanimously among participating members. The minutes record that public comment raised concerns about lighting and preserving dark skies, but no specific mitigation was adopted at the meeting.
The Planning Commission's recommendation forwards the ordinance to the County Commission, which will take the final zoning action at a later meeting.
