Kane County outlines 2026 legislative priorities ahead of Jan. 20 session

County Commissioner Celeste Myers told the commission that the Utah Legislature's general session begins Jan. 20 and that the commission, treasurer and staff will visit the Capitol Jan. 20–23 to meet with legislators and testify in committees. "The legislature's general session begins on January 20," she said, and outlined priorities including Title 17 (county authorities and emergency response), work on the preliminary municipality statute tied to a proposed preliminary incorporation east of Kanab (Willow), continued work on WUI (Wildland Urban Interface) implementation and a request for appropriations (RFA) for RS 2477 roads litigation and access rights.
Commissioners also discussed collaborating with the Farm Bureau on water catchment and grazing allotment policy; one commissioner noted differences between states in allowable water-catchment practices. Representative Logan Monson (local state representative) was noted as assisting with an RFA for funding related to RS 2477 litigation.
