Taos County senior program reports growing meal service and capital-outlay awards

Senior program staff presented monthly metrics and facility updates to the commission, reporting high demand for meals and transportation services and staffing challenges for delivery. The director said that as of March the program had provided 23,155 congregate meals, 46,890 home-delivered meals and 8,908 weekend meals, and that transportation services had logged 1,654 trips; staff said they are operating with administrative staff filling driver duties until the driving position is filled.
The presentation also reviewed capital-outlay activity: an approved $1,400,000 capital-outlay award for renovations to the Amalia Senior Center that staff are arranging to repurpose to the Costilla Elementary renovations, and a 2024 capital-outlay request of $727,000 to complete phase 3 of La Cienega School renovations for Cuesta Senior Center services, which awaits legislative final approval. Staff highlighted volunteer-recruitment needs in the Foster Grandparents and Senior Companion programs and said the county and partners are pursuing vendor networking to spend New Mexico Grown produce funds. Commissioners and the chair thanked staff for the work and encouraged outreach to recruit volunteer drivers.
