Commission approves loan agreement to build Carson three-bay fire station

Public safety staff presented a financing package to build a three‑bay fire station for the Carson Volunteer Fire Department. Chief Mike Cordova said the project cost estimate is about $1,112,000; the county will contribute $300,000 and a $600,000 grant is in hand, leaving a loan to fund the balance. Cordova said the county expects a low interest rate (1–2%) over 30 years and anticipates the note could be paid off earlier as ISO changes increase funding to the department.
"This is a low interest loan. It's 1 or 2% for 30 years," Cordova said, noting the county has assembled grant and county contributions to reduce the loan size. Commissioners moved to approve Resolution 2025-15 authorizing execution of the loan agreement; roll‑call approval followed.
