Taos County accepts FY2024 audit after auditor reports ‘clean’ opinion and revenue gains

Taos County commissioners voted to accept the FY2024 financial audit after a presentation from Cordova CPAs that described improved revenue and a clean audit opinion.
"My name is Bobby Cordova. I represent Cordova with CPAs, and our firm performed the audit of Taos County for fiscal year 24," said Bobby Cordova, the lead auditor, who summarized the firm's findings and the federal single-audit results. Cordova told the commission the county received an unmodified, or "clean," opinion and that revenue increased by about $5.9 million year over year. He said the county's general fund balance rose by roughly $2.5 million and total debt fell by about $2 million for the year.
Cordova also reviewed program-level federal compliance. "The two programs we audited this year were the Local Assistance and Travel Consistency Fund and the Good Neighbor Authority," he said, reporting unmodified opinions on both and noting those programs accounted for roughly 83 percent of the county's federal expenditures in the audit period. He described several significant deficiencies and other matters that remain to be addressed but said there were no material weaknesses in the financial statements.
Commissioners asked staff for the presentation slides and for follow-up on the audit findings and corrective steps. The board approved Resolution 2025-18 accepting the audit by roll call vote.
