Road Supervisor Kurt Demel presented a County Road Crossing Permit at 11:48 a.m. for MJE, LLC to install a 4-inch poly water line on D Road; the board approved Road Crossing Permit 2026-004 on a motion by Commissioner Miller, seconded by Commissioner Burdett (vote 3-0). Kurt clarified the location as between 80th and 90th Avenue and noted that private buried lines typically are not traced by DIG Safe, in contrast with public utilities.
Later in the road discussion Brian Carton of Ward Feed Lot described proposed entrances and fencing for a new feed yard; commissioners and Kurt recommended coordination with township officers because affected roads are township roads. Commissioners also discussed reopening D Road until notice on the BUILD grant, placing 'road under construction' signage and reducing the speed limit to 30 MPH in the work area.
The board reviewed paperwork requirements to take ownership of a county road segment on 90th Avenue between D and E Road and debated the purchase of a new mowing tractor. Commissioner Rein asked Commissioner Miller and Kurt to evaluate options; Rein and Burdett said they would approve a BTI purchase if Miller and Kurt agreed, while Miller asked Kurt to inspect a used, higher-hour tractor in St. John that is priced lower. Kurt said he would take mechanics to inspect the used tractor.
