Pawnee Valley Community Hospital reports better year-to-date finances, discusses county repayment plan

Representatives from Pawnee Valley Community Hospital briefed commissioners at 10:00 a.m. on operating statistics through February 2026. Melanie Urban, the hospital administrator, presented operational highlights including mammography accreditation, a 6th Grade Health Fair and staff engagement survey plans; Michelle Beckner, HaysMed chief financial officer, reviewed financial results, payer mix and accounts receivable concerns.

Beckner told the board the hospital would "like to stay with the 180 days cash on hand with Capital Reserves" and asked whether the county wished to amend the existing affiliation agreement to address repayments. Commissioner Rein said the board did not want to change the affiliation agreement and preferred executing a separate agreement specifically governing repayments. Commissioners also requested updates on accounts receivable and the hospital’s 340B program accounting as follow-ups.

Urban said she would contact Mayor Nusser about telehealth coordination following a Zoom meeting referenced by Commissioner Rein. Hospital operational items and upcoming community events were discussed, but no formal county action or timeline for repayments was adopted at the meeting.
