CUD update: Isle La Motte, Alburgh and Montgomery told to expect fiber before end of 2026

At its Feb. 4, 2026 meeting the Isle La Motte Selectboard heard a broadband update from the Champlain Valley CUD’s representative and the nonprofit Northwest Fiberworx. Mary Kay Raymond of Northwest Fiberworx requested an executive session under 1 V.S.A. § 313, saying premature public disclosure would disadvantage the CUD. The board entered executive session at 6:35 p.m. and reconvened at 7:03 p.m.
After returning to public session Chair Peter Brzozowy informed attendees that Isle La Motte, Alburgh and Montgomery can expect access to fiber-optic internet before the end of 2026, and that Northwest Fiberworx will speak to town meeting attendees on Feb. 28. The Selectboard did not vote on a contract or financial commitment at the meeting; board discussion and the executive-session rationale focused on protecting competitive or negotiating positions as allowed under 1 V.S.A. § 313.
Why it matters: fiber access could change broadband availability and bandwidth capacity for residents and businesses in multiple islands in the region. The Selectboard directed that Northwest Fiberworx brief the public at Town Meeting, giving residents a scheduled opportunity to ask questions about timing, costs and connection options.
