Selectboard approves $13,639 epoxy reflooring after town office water damage

The Isle La Motte Selectboard voted Feb. 18 to authorize Liquid Stone to install epoxy flooring in the town office kitchen, pantry, kitchenette and the bathroom off the kitchenette at an estimated cost of $13,639.
Chair Peter Brzozowy presented the estimate and said the board favored epoxy because it resists flooding and can withstand the intensive cleaning required in a kitchen. Assistant to the Selectboard Karen Brunner told members Liquid Stone could begin work the week of Feb. 23, 2026 and will provide a per-room quote for additional areas. The board noted the product carries a 35-year guarantee and that Liquid Stone committed to repair damage at no cost to the town.
Mary-Catherine Graziano voiced concern about cost differences between epoxy and less-expensive materials such as tile or laminate and suggested doing the kitchenette and bathroom in cheaper material; Chair Brzozowy and Selectboard member Joe Deller said epoxy was preferable where plumbing exists. Pat Treckman said she favored the continuity and lifespan of epoxy.
Pat Treckman moved to approve the Liquid Stone epoxy work in the identified areas at the estimated cost of $13,639; Peter Brzozowy seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously. Karen Brunner will notify Liquid Stone to proceed. The board also noted the remediated town office water is now potable and the refinished spaces could be used as an emergency shelter if needed.
